New City Patch Rescue

Michelle Mazzaro, a Nanuet mom, recently called up her husband Dan to tell him that their friend, Clarkstown Councilman George Hoehmann, had just helped save two people from a house fire. Dan asked Michelle where she’d heard about it. She said that she's reading it on Patch. Dan was shocked and he immediately called up George to ask him about it.

On the phone, George was even more shocked -- because he was currently in an ambulance with an oxygen mask in his hand. He couldn't believe how quickly the house fire story was covered by Patch. We do what we can!

Photographic “Patchwork” in Milford, CT

A new Milford Patch blogger’s first post: “As time moved closer to sunset gloomy clouds covering the whole sky. As I stood there with ten minutes to go, I checked my surroundings and noticed a pile of washed up shells from the previous high tide. I ran over, grabbed two handfuls and patched this photograph together.”

A Giant Check, for a Giant Win!

In January, we announced that a family in Davis, Calif., won our first Deck the House holiday decorating contest. Superintendent Winfred Roberson (far right) and Trustee Sheila Allen (far left) took the court during halftime at a Davis High School basketball game to accept the $100,000 prize from Davis Patch Local Editor Justin Cox (not pictured) and the Powell family (pictured in between Allen and Roberson). Davis Schools Superintendent Roberson put it best when he held the giant check overhead and said, "Hey kids, this is for you!" Congratulations to Davis Schools from everyone here at Patch!

Chelmsford Local Editor "Saved" by Fire Department in Local Rite of Passage

Chelmsford Fire Department invited Local Editor Krista Perry to a water rescue demonstration. But when Krista showed up to take photos, firefighters surprised her by telling her she was there to be the victim!

Being the victim in a fire department demonstration is a rite of passage for local journalists and shows how embedded this Patcher is in her community...Go Krista!
